*The origins of the traditional Reiki lineage
trace back to Dr. Mikao Usui, who founded the Reiki method of healing in Japan. Dr. Usui was born to a wealthy Buddhist family in 1865 and received a well-rounded education, including martial arts, swordsmanship, and the Japanese form of Chi Kung, known as Kiko. He developed the Reiki system of healing based on the revelation and understanding of the body’s energy system.
Dr. Usui taught his system to thousands of students during his lifetime, with only a handful reaching the level of Shinpiden or Reiki Master. One of these masters was Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, who further developed the Usui system by adding hand positions to more thoroughly cover the body and refining the attunement process. Dr. Hayashi also trained several more Reiki Masters, including Hawayo Takata, a Japanese-American woman who introduced Reiki to the United States in 1937.
Mrs. Takata continued to practice and teach Reiki until her passing in 1980, passing on the practice to millions of people worldwide. Farmer Chantae is one of those Traditional Reiki Students.
